About 35 miles west of Tulsa, Oklahoma, sits a small,
technical and incredibly rewarding road racing course called Hallett.
Built in 1976, this 1.8 mile, 11 turn track features 80 feet of
elevation change through its hilly topography. Hallett is
considered a ‘technically difficult’ course, and for good reason. One
of the most unique features is an uphill, off-camber turn which is
infamous for sending unsuspecting drivers off-course. So much so, that
its official nickname is, ‘The Bitch.’

I was a late notice addition to this private track day set up by Brent Steward. They were short staffed and asked if I would be willing to instruct one of the new drivers. My student, Ann, had never been on a race track before and was attending this event on the urging of her husband. Though nervous before we began, she gained confidence quickly and was lapping without instruction by the third session and having a great time.
I had plenty of time to run my own car and took riders each session. It was an extraordinarily hot day which made achieving a new record lap time quite difficult. I did however manage a best lap of the day time of 1:22.4. All things considered; this event made for a great experience!
